Fifteenth
year of MUSICA E ARTE
Since the inauguration of these on "Musica
e
Arte"
their title itself has given reason for their existence. Musical development, in
its two fundamental aspects, distinct from one another and yet complementary -
an ever - greater capacity for instrumental expression and a more faithful
interpretation - achieves greater concreteness and essentiality in experimental
musical acquisition if referred to and compared with the various forms of visual
art.
In his preface to "History of Music" the noted music
critic Giulio Confalonieri declared: " ...every musical composition
presupposes a creative act of will, just like a painting, a monument, a poem, a
novel or the erection of an architectural building. Fron this point of view the
Divine Comedy, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, a painting by Tintoretto and a
Vivaldi concerto are all equivalent, each being a synthesis of imaginative
intuition and logical awareness ...".
And Arturo
Benedetti Michelangeli has written: " We musicians... believe in a language
capable of speaking directly to the hearts of men, simply, as life itself does
every day with its mystery, its pain and its beauty... Certainly making music
means living it attentively and intimately for itself, cultivating it in the
silence of one's own soul, but also - and above all - it means managing to make
the music live for others, awakening in them the same emotion and enchantment
that move and enchant us ... - and the great Pianist continues: " ...
that which a men unknown to me, who perhaps lived many centuries before me, once
committed to paper can live again through me, it is real again and present in
those who are listening ...".
Once more this
year, as our traditional programme requires, the Courses, will include an
examination of works of architecture and painting offered by the Tolentino area:
works which entice the eye into wandering over the characteristic and varied
landscape of this part of the Marches, so as to recall to the mind and to the
immagination the compositions of the great musicians and the simple harmonies of
popular tradition: all of this is embraced by that universality of sentiments,
values and cultural enrichment which stimulates mankind to achieve " eminents
things".
